How to Activate WMP in IE6 Manage Add-ons Window?

A

Arion

I still can not get IE6 to go back to launching WMP when I select an
mp3 link. I've selected WMP as the default player for mp3 files. I've
deselected Quicktime as a mp3 player. Still selecting a mp3 link will
open a new window in IE6 and the Quicktime player. However, in the
"Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer" window I see
Windows Media Player (both wmp.dll and wmpdxm.dll) and they are both
enabled. In the "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer" window
I do not see WMP. How do I add WMP as a currently loaded add-on which
hopefully will launch WMP instead of QT?

HI Arion,
In the Add-Ons Manager Disable all QT Add-Ons and click on Reset Web
Settings, then close and Reboot your Computer and open the WMP.
Hope this helps

Hi Arion,

This is a MIME setting problem. Type this in Start, Run:

REG EXPORT "HKCR\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mpeg" C:\MIME.TXT

Then open C:\MIME.TXT using Notepad, and post the contents here.

REG EXPORT "HKCR\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mpeg" C:\MIME.TXT

HKCR\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mpeg contains "default",
"CLSID", and "Extension"

A search for C:\mime.txt found one doc that contains the message:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mpeg]
"Extension"=".mp3"
"CLSID"="{4063BE15-3B08-470D-A0D5-B37161CFFD69}"

Thanks for the help.

Arion,

Start Regedit.exe and navigate to:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mpeg]

Double-click "CLSID" and set its data to:

{cd3afa76-b84f-48f0-9393-7edc34128127}

Close Regedit.exe

Re-open Internet Explorer and see if the problem is solved. WMP should open
when you click .mp3 files from now on.

And, need a little favor from you. This is for my info, and not to fix the
problem. Run this command and post the results here:

REG EXPORT "HKCR\CLSID\{4063BE15-3B08-470D-A0D5-B37161CFFD69}" C:\CLSID.TXT

Open the file named CLSID.TXT present in C:\, using Notepad, and post the
info here. This CLSID (no hits in Google!!) might be related to Apple
QuickTime.
