win98 pc's can't login to WIN2K DC

I recently replaced an NT4 PDC with a WIN2K DC. My WIN2K
Pro pc's & XP Pro pc's have no trouble logging in &
running login scripts on the new server. However, my two
WIN98 pc's can't login. I get a message indicating that
the network password is incorrect or access is denined to
Domain Controller to verify password. I have checked &
rechecked username & password so I know they are correct.
I can't login as any user on the 98 pc's. I have the 2K
DC providing DHCP, DNS & WINS. The 98 pc's get a correct
address. I can ping the server by IP adder & also by
name.I tried installing DS Client on the 98 pc's without
any luck. I've removed & reinstalled all networking
componets from the 98 pc's (clients, protocols, services)
with the same result. I've set static IP adder & WINS,
DNS ith same result. I need to resolve this issue ASAP!
Thanks for any & all help.

as it stands, you probably cant ping the server? Check
your host file. add the server name and ip address in
here.

I can ping the server by address & by name so I think DNS
& WINS are working. Is there a place for a hosts fileon
WIN98?

On the Win98 machines make sure the properties for MS Client for Networks
lists only the NetBIOS name of your domain - ie. if your Win2k domain is
mydomain.com, the NT domain is just mydomain.

You my want to try an lmhosts file:

<IP address of DC> <NetBIOS name of DC> #PRE #DOM:<NetBIOS name of domain>

I believe hosts and lmhosts go in the WINDOWS\System directory on Win98.

Make sure the ipconfig/all from the client shows that everything is pointing
to the server-IP.
Do you have options 003, 006, 015, 044 and 046 (0x8) set in DHCP-server,
Scope options?

I had a similar problem, installed 2x win2k servers in my
domain, already running 3x win2k server.
9x clients and NT4.0 clients used to log on and work
fine. After installing the 2 new servers, the 9x and
NT4.0 clients would take numerous attempts to log on. If
i stopped the netlogon service on both new servers, the
clients logged on fine. Dont know if that's gonna help
but may give you diving inspiration.
