Me

I have an older computer that I would like to dedicate solely to running
WinMX and Kazaa.

The computer is a Pentium-II - 350mhz - 240MB Ram - 7 ghz HD

Which OS should I install? Win98 or Win2000 ?

Which one will run faster with less need for reboots? I hope not to be
running anything else except those programs. But I do hope to network it to
my main workstation.

Opinions?

Thanks!

Win2k is probably more stable (less reboots)
- is win2k even rated for a 350Mhz processor?
Win98 is probably faster, smaller, easier to set up
- win98se is very stable, and could certainly run those apps easily

For what you are trying to do Win98SE would be just fine.

W98 would be less taxing on a low-power system, but you
can't match the stability of W2K Pro. It's really give or
take, you can't have the best of both worlds.

I agree. Unless you feel like setting up a Linux box and create a really
stable, secure, and permanent P2P zombie :)

Unless Kazaa has been rewritten since I last used it, a 350MHz PentiumII
will not be fast enough. WinMX will be fine as a secondary node.

The more stable (less reboots) OS is win2000, you could also use XP.

If you have both available, you would do better to go with Windows 2000.
98se is good, but it does have its moments. I installed Win2K on a Compaq
Armada, and it is rather slow.

For your computer, the PII-350, the optimum would be Windows NT
Workstation. However, with NT you will lose the USB function.

ME????

Run! As fast as you can in the otehr direction! lol!

;-)
I have just finished re-staging two Compaq Presarios from ME to 98SE. What
a relief! The crap that Compaq adds plus the most unstable OS ever made by
MS was a real pain in the backside.
