win2k setup

i have a powerful pentium p4 machine but will it accept
win2k? I have made multiple attempts to get the os onto
the machine and had it not play ball.

latest attempts are fdisk then create new dos partition
using win98 start-up disk, FAT 32 file system (required)
formatted with clean install. after a while of adding
programmes (av, firewall, modem drivers and m/b utilities)
it will not boot...

any suggestions of why it won't work, please as it is
almost happy with 98se!

thanks,

Benn

Technically, all you should have to do is slop in the
CD... let it boot with the CD inside and let the setup
program do the rest. As you can tell from my own original
thread, I also am having problems installing.
Can you tell me some more about the kinds of errors or
problems you're encountering while trying to load win2k?

Also you might want to check if all of your hardware is
compatible. See this link within Microsoft for the
Hardware Incompatibility List:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/services/whql/hcl/win2000hcl.txt

Also I noted that you have been adding programs on, after
which it does not boot. You may have to try adding them
on program by program, with a reboot in between. Then
you'll find out who the culprit is on your machine.

Hello Carissa,
Technically, all you should have to do is slop in the
CD... let it boot with the CD inside and let the setup
program do the rest.

That is my experience with other versions of windows...
Can you tell me some more about the kinds of errors or
problems you're encountering while trying to load win2k?

I don't get error messages, I get a machine that will get
into a constant loop of starting - rebooting - starting
etc. etc. It is as if the win2k breaks and can't be fixed.
Last known configuration won't fix the problem and the
break occurs at different times and after different
events - i.e. it is not a consistent same time same place
problem. It is for that reason I started the reboot
between loading each programme...

This is one long list!

Thank you for your help; good luck with your troubles,

Benn
