Win2k Pro Won't Load

Help!

I have a standalone WIn2k Pro system. Includes SP4 and all current
hotfixes.

Working fine until yesterday.

Went to boot and the following occurred.

Sat on "Windows is starting up ... " box for several minutes.

Then sat on "Preparing network connections ..." box for several more
minutes.

Then greyed out log on box appears (its greyed out because I'm the only user
and it's set to auto logon). After a further several minutes the following
message appears.

"The system cannot log you on now because the domain xxx is not available"

Click "OK" and log on box re-appears not greyed out this time.

I then try to log on with administrator password and after several more
minutes get the same response.

Any suggestions as to how to overcome this problem greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Sorry I dont have THE answer but wondered if you had tried starting in safe
mode or used boot log to see if that shows up anything?

On a few occasions, after successfully being able to get a system to boot up
in safe mode, Ive found that the following normal restart is OK. I dont know
why this happens but just glad that it sometimes does!

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the suggestions.

I tried safe mode but the result was the same.

I've done a CHKDSK from Recovery console. No problems found and no change.

Is it possible to access bootlog from recovery console?

Cheers.

"Domain xxx is not available"?? If this is a standalone system and has
never belonged to a Domain, that is wrong. Does the login box have two
or three boxes? Try typing <machinename>\<username> in the user box.

Cheers,

Cliff
