Hello

Can anyone tell me the step-by-step procedure of win2k pro installation from hard disk. I did by following way but failed>
Firstly, I have no OS in C drive now [previosuly win98, I formatted it], my D E F drive are FAT32. I copied the i386 folder from CD to hard disk. Boot the pc with win98 boot disk, enter into D:\i386 folder and run WINNT. It checks all routin works, formatted NTFS C drive, copied all files and when restarts, it says NT LOADER MISSING. Thus installation failed

Secondly, I boot the pc with win2k 4 setup disks, it checks all necessary setups works and prompt to insert CD, no option for hard disk folder where my i386 is stored. So I could not move

Now, I want to know how can I perform win2k installation from Hard Disk where no OS is present in C drie with NTFS format? Any ideas or web Links will be appreciated...

p.s. plz don't say boot from cd or insert floppy and then switch to CD folder. I know that. But I want to know this FLAT INSTALLATION TRICK.... :->

This article may help.

Also the partition in your case needs to be a primary partition marked as
active.

It sounds like you might have to start over. But check one thing first.
Bootup from the win98 disk, type FDISK at the command promt. Select Y and
hit enter at the next couple screens, and you should come to a menu. Select
the number to show information whick should be No4. Look to see under Status
for the C: partition if it is marked A for active. You should also be able
to switch to other partitions by selecting No5 in the menu. Make sure when
you check for Active you are looking at the right partition. It will also
tell you the file system so you should see the right partition as NTFS. If
that partition is not marked Active, Select No2 from the menu and select the
right partition and mark it active. Reboot and see if the computer will
start up on the new W2K install.
PS use the Esc key to back out of menu choises.
