i dont have a floppy drive in this laptop and i am trying
to run a clean install from win98 environment to make it
win2k using the win2k cd rom.

however, the problem i get is each time it hangs half way
thru the part where it detects/configures/installs devices
(such as monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc).

i have tried to put this win2k installation on a different
(ntfs and in another attempt, fat32) partition as well as
the same partition as win 98 in another attempt. but to no
avail.

please advise.
thanks.

I don't think there is a problem with your install process. Instead I
think there is a compatibility problem with your hardware. There are
only a couple of things you can do since this is a laptop. First check
on the manafacturers web site and verifify that they say your laptop
will run Windows 2000. Also they may have specific setup instructions.
The other thing is make certain you have the latest BIOS installed.

How long have you let it sit while "detecting devices"? Depending on the
speed of the computer, it may take quite a while for the process to
complete.
