Is it possible to dual boot a pc that already has WIN2k pro installed and
install Win98? I have a legacy piece of software that does not work with the
win2k upgrade, and will only run under 98 or below.
thanks in advance

The answer depends on your current setup:
- How many partitions do you have?
- What type are they? Primary? Logical? FAT32? NTFS?

A multi-booting system requires the two OSs to reside
in separate partitions. While it is possible to install them
on the same partition, you will get several clashes. Ask
your friendly computer dealer for an old hard disk - e.g.
2 or 4 GBytes. You should be able to get one for next
to nothing.

The alternative is to partition your current disk. This
requires a tool such as PQMagic or Acronis.

Post again when you're ready.

A slave disk is fine. Now do this:
- Create a partition of suitable size on the slave drive.
- Install Win98. Make very sure that it goes onto the
slave drive.
- Do a clean DOS boot under Win98, to get an
MS DOS prompt.
- Type these commands:
bootpart winnt boot:c:
(This will create the Win2000 boot sector on drive C:)
bootpart win95 c:\bootsect.dos "Windows 98"
(This will create the Windows 98 boot sector file. It will also create
a Windows 98 entry in c:\boot.ini)
You can get bootpart.exe from here:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/gvollant/bootpart.htm

You will now be able to chose between Win2000 and Win98
at boot time.
