After a fresh install of our backup server, we installed
MS Intellipoint software then changed the driver to a
wheel mouse driver. After restarting the mouse and
keyboard no longer functioned.
We can access the server and its registry remotely.
What is the best way to correct this problem?

Archol,

Navigate to the following registry key using regedt32.exe remotely:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Remove LMouFlt2 from the Upperfilters value and verify that only MOUCLASS is
listed.

Once you remove the value, restart the system.

Since we completed a fresh install, we were able to
restore the system hive by using the WIN2000 CD-ROM and
repairing the system by using the recovery console.
ren c:\winnt\system system.old
ren c:\winnt\system system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\winnt\repair\system c:\winnt\system32\config
After restart, there were minimal changes including
reinstalling the network drivers.

Remember to always keep your Emergency Repair Disk updated.
