Win2000 Pro Blank Desktop No Icons

Started up a desktop PC with Win2000 Pro Operating System. It prompted me for
my username and password and it appears that it proceeded along. Then the
only thing was a blank blue screen, no icons and no task bar.

I am not sure if Explorer.exe was listed or not listed as one of the running
tasks but I tried to follow the steps in article ID 256194 but got stumped
when it suggested that I change to the %systemroot% folder. Where and how do
I change to this folder?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi Rena,

I too have the same problem and followed the instructions in article ID
#256194 but it did not resolve the problem

The answer to your question is that the file they are suggesting is actually
in the "System32" sub directory within "WINNT" directory. When you have gone
into the task manager and selected file/New task and typed in cmd.exe, you
need to type cd winnt\system32, then follow their instructions.

Hope you have better luck than I did. It seems a pity to have to pay £199 to
get support to solve this problem.

Thanks for your reply. I will give it a try. Will let you know if it works
or not. If I find another solution, I will let you know. Thanks again.
