I just installed Win xp home edition on a new hard drive
and have a question . I would of just installed xp on top
of win 2000 and then clone the disk but i know xp home
cannot upgrade win 2000 so-- how do i transfer all of my
programs ,settings, desktop etc. from my win 2000 disk
so i don't have to reinstall anything ??

You and try the File and Settings Transfer Wizard providing you can see boot
up in 2000. However it would probably be better to reinstall most of the
programs because they have no registry entries in XP and you'll need to
install them to get this correct. The FSTW will 'move' things like email,
IE Favorites, but it isn't designed to transfer everything.

Windows XP Pro will upgrade from Windows 2000 Pro. This would have been the
better option if you didn't want to clean install and reinstall software.
