Win XP won't recognize audio recorder on USB

Hi, I'm a radio producer who uses a HHB portadisc minidisc recorder and Adobe
Audition. I have a new computer with XP PRO, same as my previous computer. On
the old one, I connected the Portadisc to thecomputer through a USB, and
Windows XP recognizes the devise as ‘portadisc’. I can then select it as my
input devise in Adobe Audition, the audio editing software I use.

When I connect the Portadisc to the new computer, I get a ‘can’t recognize
the devise message.’ The portadisc machine works and the USB cable is good.
I’ve tried every USB port, same thing. The HHB doesn’t require a driver to be
installed.

I’ve now tried the HHB and same USB cable on three computers, all running
Windows XP, and they all recognize the Portadisc. This new computer, also
running Windows XP, does not. I called HHB, and they can’t figure it out.
They tried their Portadisc on a bunch of computers running XP, and they also
had no problem.

I called Dell, and ran every possible diagnostic. Nothing. On Dell’s advice,
I completely reloaded Windows and all device drivers. Same problem.

I can’t get Windows to recognize the recorder, and therefore can’t bring in
my sound recordings digitally. Any ideas out there? Any advice would be
greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've just come across this question and although its 5 years later and Portadisc technology is a thing of the past I find myself asking the same question. Did the original submitter ever come up with a solution? Is there anybody else who has a suggestion. Thanks
