CD drives disappeared after Win XP SP2 installation

The CD drives disappeared after Win XP SP2 installation.
I can see the drives in the device manager but they are disabled.
I’ve uninstalled them and I rebooted the computer but it didn’t fix it. As a
result of this I can’t use them or see them in the windows explorer.
Any suggestions how to fix this?

All the best,

Hi,

Save the file below to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and
double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is
done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Thank you Kelly for posting the path to the CD fix. SP2
has caused many headaches for me. I will probably never
install another SP or Win update...
