Issues with Windows XP SP2 and MDAC 2.91

I'm having issues with Windows XP SP2 and MDAC 2.91.

After installing SP2 and a SQL patch 4, I lost my Access ODBC drivers.
Here's the error I see when I try to test an ODBC connection: "The setup
routines for the Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) ODBC driver could not be
found. Please reinstall the driver."
Long story short, after researching MS sites, I ran the MDAC component
checker from Microsoft which reports a mismatch on MSADCO.DLL (expected
version 2.81.117.0) and after spending many more hours researching MS site
again, I have come to the conclusion, I would have to install SP2. Why?
Because you can’t install MDAC 2.81 for Windows XP because it can ONLY be
install when you install SP2.

But see, that is where the problem begins. After I installed the SP2 the
first time and also adding a patch for SQL Server, I lost my Access ODBC
drivers. I tried to do a restore but I lost that too. (I think that’s due to
not having too much memory space left on my hard drive.) MS site states that
MDAC 2.81 for Windows XP Pro can ONLY be found in SP2. Well, I have
reinstalled it Many times and it still hasn’t fixed the problem and you can't
install v2.81 stand-a-lone. I even tried to uninstalled/reinstall MS ACCESS
too.

The bottom line, there doesn’t seem to be a fix to this issue and I’m not
the only one with this issue. I have seen many people on here with the same
issue.

There should be a way to fix Access ODBC drivers for Windows XP Pro.
Installing SP2 doesn’t help fix this problem!!! HELP! I’m very tired of
this problem. I have worked on this for over 18 hours now. I’m about to just
give up….

Unless you're a beta tester the latest major version of MDAC is 2.8 You
might try reapplying jet4.0 sp8 or repairing your office installation.

Also note that jet components are not part of MDAC

Hi Dave,

That was a typo! it should have read MDAC 2.8 not 2.9.

I finially figure out that I had installed the wrong SP2. I had installed a
network version
on a single laptop. Once I used the correct SP2 version and followed the
instructions on the following link:

http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=324520

I was able to address the issue with my MS ACCESS DB. Later this week I'll
reinstall
SQL server and I should be back too normal.

After geting some rest, I was able to address this issue on my own and with
out using your suggestion, but I have to say, thanks for taking the time to
reading my posting and responding. You never know, I could use your help
another time.

Thanks again, have a great day!

Regards,
Leo
