WIN-XP wont boot, it recyles trhough the srat in safe mode

WIN-XP wont boot, it recyles trhough the srat in safe mode
asking what to do, ie start Windows in last known good
configuration; safe mode, etc.
While pressing last known good config or safe mode it
simply recyles back to the same screen.
Tryied a repair with the CD but no good.
Any suggestions?

may want to put the drive in another machine & check for
virus. then use recovery console to chkdsk /r. may help.
