xp boot continuously cycles

I have recently upgraded from win2000 to home xp on a new gigabyte
motherboard ( GA-K8N Pro-SLI).

on boot up i get the first welcome screen which then reverts to the
start-up options screen. (like safe mode, safe with network, last known
working configurtion, normal boot etc. etc) - it NEVER get to the
normal log-on screen

The only option that works from here is to boot in safe mode - which
brings up the safe-mode log-on screen and I can logon in safe mode OK

All other options simply cause a total machine boot and a repeat of the
above.

I've FDISKED and FORMATED the disk and reinstalled from scratch several
times but its always the same result.

.......... anyone got any ideas why - I cant resolve this at all

Did you resolve your issue beacuse I am suffering from the same problem
although I did not muck about with Motherboards or anything clever like that.
I just uninstalled some programmes Acrobat, some Microsoft Messenger stuff
and the like. The machine would not shut down properly, now it goes blank
screen on me.
