Hello. . i have loaded the service pack 2 into my laptop, a VPR Matrix with
Windows XP Home
have also loaded my anti-virus program, Trend Micro PC Cillin Internet
Security 2006
Did the anti-virus first then the service pack. . .after rebooting, got the
msg "windows does not detect any anti-virus program installed on this
computer". . .went to control panel and security center said;
firewall. . .on, Automatic updates. . . on, virus protection. . .not found
.. . . .. had the option to check box saying "i have an anti-virus program
and will monitor it myself". . it also tells me that windows will not
monitor or sent alerts if it is off or out of date. . .have checked and the
anti-virus probram is working and all my settings are "in line". . .if
anyone can give me any information i will be most grateful. .
thanks in advance for any help R E (Gene) Foltz

It's best to remove the anti-virus before installing the service pack and
then install the AV.

But the fact is that it can interfere, and it seems it did so in your case.
Just because it worked in one configuration is not a guarantee. It is
_always_ best to at least disable, if not remove, AV programs when doing a
major OS upgrade like that.

One option is to uninstall the AV then reinstall. Another is to remove SP2,
uninstall the AV, install SP2, then install the AV.
