Win XP running slow

My Problem is that since I've downloaded some updates my
computer has been running slow I've deleted the two
updates, defraged the drive with no results.Besides the
loading being slow when I go to outlook express and have
deleted mail to trash everytime I bring up the trash and
try to go down to delete the minute I move the cursor
down it (the trash) disappears on me (yes I know that I
can still delete by going to edit)and I cannot recover
items that I have deleted. I have done virus scan, disk
scan with no favorable out come. Almost to the point of
reformatting the drive , if anyone knows something that I
have not tried I would happy for the information to stopp
the reformatt.

You should not just delete the updates but uninstall them
from the control panels add/remove list.
Make a system restore to an earlier date before you've
installed the updates.
