Deleting Big Files

I have been working on several large video files (.avi) and now, having
edited them and burned the DVD's I deleted the source .avi files ( together
totallin around 30GB). The process of deleting them was a long one and
several times even right clicking on the files caused a hang. In the event
I moved each of them to trash can but several gave a message that they were
too big to be recovered and questioning whether I did want to delete them - I
did. This stage actually went faster than I believe. Afterwards however,
the C: drive, when viewed in my computer shows very little change in the free
space and only about an improvement of 8-10GB which is about the total of the
two smaller files (each around +/- 4GB) that did not give the warning message
about not recovery.

I have rebooted several times, I do not run Norton protected trash can, I
have emptied the trash can, I have terminated explorer and anything else that
I believe could have a handle on the files, I have tried just about
everything I can to get the space back that should have been freed up when I
deleted those files.

I'd be grateful for any help or ideas as to what has gone wrong and what to
do.

Thanks

Did you try a defrag?

When you burn DVD's does your programme make backup copies on your hard
drive before completing the operation you have set it to do?

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Yes I tried a defrag and also a CHKDSK but neither had any visible
impact on the available space.
