All the articles I have read do not clarify what type of backup achieves a
clean WIN XP Pro re-install without losing data and application files. Pls

A backup and a reinstall are two different things. A backup does not
'achieve a clean WIN XP Pro re-install..." What exactly do you want to do?

There's no such thing as a clean install that saves applications. The two
are mutually exclusive.
