I have my laptop-with windows xp pro . I had a mother
board replaced in this computer , when I reloaded
windows everything works fine except I can't load service
pak SP1 or critical update 811630. I called Microsoft
for help and they said to call authentication ... . The
automated voice asks if I have my activation window is
open.. I don't have a window . and the recording doesn't
offer any other help.. Can someone help me through this
Techno nightmare..

What errors are you receiving when you try to apply the updates?

Posted 'as is'. If there are any spelling and/or grammar mistakes, they
were a direct result of my fingers and brain not being synchronized or my
lack of caffeine.

Not sure this helps, but a recent post on a similar subject says:
"Simply reboot into Safe Mode* and follow the on-screen instructions to
activate via telephone."

Bruce Chambers

*Safe mode is entered by tapping the F8 key repeatedly as soon as the LED on
your floppy drive lights up during startup.
