Win XP Pro will not copy files

My brother had to format his hard drive a week ago and then we reinstalled
Windows XP Pro. But when we reinstalled it, it did not copy the following
files:

driver.cab
processr.sys
logonui.exe

and numerous other near the end of the installation. I just skipped these to
see if it would load up any way and it did not get to the Windows XP boot
screen. I then borrowed a friend's copy of XP Pro and it installed the
driver.cab and logonui.exe and the others at the end of the installion, but
not the processr.sys and another one that popped up. Is there something wrong
with the hard drive or is it the cd?
Sorry if any of this doesn't make sense.

I don't believe there is an edit button, but I took his hard drive and put it
in my computer and tried installing it and it would not get 3 .ttf files,
which i assume are fonts and a .sys file.

I've had this problem before it's either a faulty CD or CD-Rom drive, it
usually happens when the CD was created and DOS character support was not
selected. If you have the orignal CD or this is the Origanal try it with
another CD-Rom and failing that take the disk back to the place of purchase.

Have you tried an "original" MS CD, whether it be retail, full, upgrade, OEM
,etc - sometimes copies don't work properly because the person making the
copy didn't set all the correct burning options - I know this for fact as
sometimes I burn a coaster or two before I can get a "slipstreamed" copy
(Windows OS with a new SP built in) done correctly, although that has all
went away since the invention of AutoStreamer. I used it for my last 2,
WinXP SP2/Win2k3 SP1, and worked like a charm - with the Win2k3 SP1, I had
so many custom drivers/etc, that it exceeded 700MB (1.2GB), but AutoStreamer
created the *.iso file, and I used EasyCD to burn the ISO to DVD instead of
CD - behold when I tested it on a test machine, the DVD booted, proceeded
into setup/install and the all the unattended setup drivers/software
installed.
