New Disc

I thought my disc crashed. Bought a new 160G Seagate UDMA. I've formatted it
w/ the Seagate utility and W XP. When loading WXP I get maybe 18% (at loading
driver.cab) then get "The file system placed on your hard drive is not a
valid Windows XP System image". If I bypass that I get mostly errors in
trying to copy various files. Seagate suggested I zero out the drive (write
zero througout) which I did and still the message at loading.
Any suggestions?

Check the XP CD is clean and not suffering from finger prints, scratches,
dust etc.

Try booting to xp cd,press F6 if SATA,then press recovery at info screen,in
recovery, press enter key if prompted for password, then type:DiskPart In
DiskPart,
delete the partition(s),then create one, then press Esc key, then type:
FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs When its thru, type:EXIT Let xp restart, reboot to xp
cd,then
at info screen select,install xp,new copy,delete partition,create one,then
xp installs
auto. Also, make sure this is the only hd installed at this time...

After a lot of scrambling I found one stick of Crucial 256M was bad. Removed
it and runs fine.
