A friend as asked me if I can sort out a problem with his Seagate Freeagent Go External drive. He unplugged it and now it states it needs formatting. There are pictures that he doesn't want to lose on the drive, so he doesn't want to format it if possible. He tried it on a laptop and I have plugged it into my pc with the same message. This is the message

"E" is not accessible The volume doesn't contain a recognised file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupt.
I tried scanning the drive with a program called usb show and fix and all I get is

You need to format the disc in drive "E" before you can use it. do you want to format it.
If I click properties it it shows Used Space 0 Free space 0 Capacity 0

I would appreciate any help. Thanks

You could try using Linux to retrieve any info on the disk. Choose one of the many " Live " cd's and away you go.
