Win XP home, error 997, cannot install SP2

Hi all

I have a computer with Win XP Home edition, SP1.

When trying to start the installer in the service window, I get an
error: "997 Overlapper I/O operation in progress"

When installing SP2 (from the net, it works well for say 30 min, then
I get an error "access denied", then Service Pack 2 installation did
not complere", then it rolls back.

Does anyone know what goes wrong here?

Borrow an SP2 CD from a friend and try that approach.
