I purchased an OEM copy of Win XP with my laptop. Can I
install it (Win XP) on my desk top system?

If it has never been installed on the laptop, yes.
If it was preinstalled on the laptop, no.

The license for the operating system is for one machine only. OEM licenses
are bound to the hardware they are installed on - no allowance is made for
transferring it to another system.

The license for the Office products (when purchased at retail) allows one
copy on the main computer and a second copy on a portable machine. Both
installations being used primarily by the same person. If OEM supplied,
check the terms of the Office license for limitations.
