Does anyone know of a free fax program I can download that works with Win XP
Pro?
I ask as the Windows XP fax software does not work with my fax modem.

I hope you can help.

I appreciate any help or information given.

Thanks!

I am sure it must work with the windows fax.
Perhaps some setting is wrong.

what type of modem Brand/Model do you have?
what exactly is your problem? Have you installed
the FAX on XP? Is the service running?

The truth is one, you must accept it. Reality is not a point of view, since
if everything was a point a view, then the theory that everything is a point

I had a lot of problems getting Windows XP Fax to work with my modem, then
one day it suddenly started working. I could not find any alternative
freeware that would do the job except Efax, which has problems of its own.

Just out of interest, tell us in what sense your 'Windows XP fax software
does not work with my fax modem'. Do you get a dial tone? Does it connect?
Does it report a fault? It could be that you will get a fix by posting on
microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers or similar NG.

When I try to send a fax it just says 'No Answer', but it never even
dialled, it comes up with the No Answer message as soon as I click the
button to send it.

The fax/modem I have is listed in Device Manager as a 'Intel(R) 536EP
Modem'.

I seem to remember reading somewhere on the internet that MS fax will only
work with certain make/model modems but I cannot remember where I read it.

Hope this helps.

If the modem is listed in the WinXP Fax Configuration Wizard it should
work. A couple of dumb questions: You do have a phone line plugged
into the modem, right? You do have "Enable Send" checked off in the
Configuration Wizard, right?

Sounds very like my problem except that in my case the modem did dial up
before the error message appeared.

You don't say what country you're in, so be aware that local dialling
protocols can mess things up. Make sure the Fax Configuration utility has
been set up correctly (e.g. tick 'enable send' etc) and make sure the
appropriate dialling rules are ticked. Make sure your fax modem is properly
installed with latest drivers.

Does your modem work OK on other things? E.g. Internet dialup?

Hope you get sorted 'cos I'm out of ideas.
