Win XP CD Spinning Up and Down LOUDLY While Playing Audio

Help!

When I listen to audio books, my CD-ROM drive spins up and down very
loudly. Something definitely is wrong. It plays the audio fine
(notwhistanding some minor pauses occasionally). But it sounds like an
airplane coming in for a landing.

Is there anything I can do to prevent it going up and down like this? I
am using Windows XP and an NEC CD-RW NR-9300A.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

The only thing you can do about it is to get a quieter CD drive. Slower
drives are often quieter.
