Win Media Player trys to open ALL of The .dat files on my system

Does anyone know why all of the .dat files on my computer have been
associated with Win Media Player? How do I get them back to not beeing
associated to anything? It's really annoying trying to update something with
a dat file but the media player keeps starting up.

Hi,

Go to Start/Run and type in:
reg delete HKCR\.DAT /ve /f

Thanks for the info but that didn't work. I know it probably wont make a big
difference in anything I do on my computer anyway but it just bothers me that
I can't figure it out. I'm running Win XP Pro sp2 by the way. Thanks again
for the help.

Try this:

1) Launch Windows Explorer
2) Tools, Folder Options, File Types
3) Scroll down the list and look for DAT files
4) If it is there, delete it.
5) Click OK button
