.DAT file type association

N

This is part of ongoing problems with file type associations on my PC
*sigh*. This particular problem is as follows:
All of my .DAT files have been assoicated with Nero Showtime as their
default program (which makes no sense conidering the variences of what .dat
files can contain and the unlikely hood of .dat files being movies). When I
re-associate thes file type via My Computer>tools>foler options>file types
and selecting the note pad - it works. From then on double clicking a .dat
file will result in notepad opening the file. However, if i simply look at a
..dat file in windows explorer I notice that all .dat files are still viewed
as Nero Showtime files and are marked with the Nero Shotime icon instead of
the notepad icon.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Control Panel | Folder Options | File Type. Locate and Select .DAT and
delete the entry rather than edit it. If you then wish to associate DAT
files with Notepad then do so.

By the way. .dat is a valid movie file format.
