what program opens DAT files?

Hello,
I chose "open with" for a dat file and didnt check the
always open with checkmark, so now all my .dat files are
opened using windows media player. Can this cause errors
and mess anything up, also what program should i
associate to open the files with? Thank you so much for
your help.

Hi

Certain programs use .DAT files. They are not normally readable apart from
the programs that created them.

Dat files don't have a particular program associated with them. I would remove
the Windows media player association entirely. Go to My Computer. Click on
Tools and select Folder Options. Click on the File types tab. Scroll through
the list until you come to the listing that has the media player associated
with DAT files. Highlight the listing and click the delete button. This will
not delete the DAT files; it will only remove the association with the Windows
media player.
