.dat files

I have a co-worker having problems with emails that have .dat files - he use
to get all his attachements as .jpg and now all of a sudden it is .dat files.

This started at first that what he sent was .dat and nobody he works with
could open them and now he is receiving.

What are .dat files and why is he getting them and sending them if he thinks
he is sending jpgs.

Is he by any chance using Thunderbird 1.5 as his email program? I just saw
a series of posts on the mozilla.support.thunderbird group about a similar
problem. No solution offered.

The dat files are attachements he receives or sends - we do a lot of pictures
emails of our product and graphics to go on our product and if they are send
an email example of our product it would me like txtanker.jpg or
pepsitanker.jpg or something like that.

I had one other person here that had that same problem and he had just got a
different laptop and it came with Corel Draw and I removed it and it was fine
- This guy isn't stationed in the office here and so I don't see his laptop
and he says he doesn't have it - he looked in Add/Remove and Start - All
Programs.
