When ever I double-click a folder in Windows Explorer with the Folder List
shown on the left, a new Windows Explorer Window opens. When the Folder List
on the left is not shown this does not happen. I do not want to open a new
windows when I double-click a Folder.

I have set NOT to open a new window for each folder in the Folder Options.

Any help would be appreciated

Windows File Explorer keeps opening windows

I had the same problem, i.e., while browsing my computer with the windows explorer, when I click a folder, it opens a new window instead of continuing in the same window. This was not the behaviour of all folder, but only some of them, although I chose to hadle every folder the same way.

I think I solved (part of) this problem.

It seems that the options in "Folder Options" were already correct.
So, I went further and opened the "file types" tab of the "Folder Options" panel.
There I selected the "folder type" from the list ad cliked the "advanced" button.
It shows that two "right click options" are available: "open" and "explore". "Open" was selected as default.
I changed it for "execute". (select it and press the button : "set as default")

It seems to work.
