Win 98 Host Xp Proffessional SP2 Client

My roomate has an old p1 with Win 98SE using a motorola surfboard cable modem.
I have connected a 10Mbps 5 port hub, ran a cat5e cable to my computer down
stairs, trying to share the connection. I installed networking on both, but
I keep getting Limited or no Connectivity error messeges. Is it possible to
have win98 as a host computer and xp professional as a client? I even tried
switching cables still get same error. Tried repairing connection it can't do
it. I think I installed networking on the xp pro first then on the 98Se.
Please help.

RyanJon,

A computer running either Windows 98, or Windows XP, will work fine as a server.
Your messages don't necessarily indicate a problem.

Both Win 98SE and XP can be ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) hosts.
However, the version of ICS in XP is much more reliable and much
easier to set up, so I recommend using XP as the host.

The "Limited or no connectivity" message means that XP's network
connection doesn't have an IP address assigned. That makes me suspect
that ICS isn't properly configured, because ICS assigns an IP address
to the host and to the client.

To make XP the host and 98SE the client, follow these steps:

XP ICS - Server Setup Using the Network Setup Wizard

XP ICS - Client Setup Using the Network Setup Wizard

To make 98 SE the host and XP the client, follow these steps:

ICS Installation [Win98SE]

XP ICS - Client Setup Using the Network Setup Wizard

I read all information about that, but ...
I have the same problem but my explorer work I can surf but my outlook
express can´t found the host.
My Host is a Win98SE and I configure manually in other clients with
win98SE works very well but in XP like a client I can´t use outlook to
check my email.
I have an error like The Host not found.

What can I do ?
If you like I can post my ipconfig of my win98SE server and my XP
client

Best regards
