I have been having a major problem with one of my
systems. The operating system (Win2k, of course) hangs at
the opening splash screen. The keyboard which had been
working up to that point flashes all 3 lights and all
lights go off. I have tried to boot into Safe Mode, but
that hangs very quickly. I have tried to reload Win2k,
but booting from the start disks (the 4 program disks)
fails to start the CDROM and, in fact, will hang the
system again. I have also gone into CMOS to try to start
the system from the CD drive in the hopes that I could
sneak around the problem that way, but by the time theCD
spins up, the system says no CD, go on to the next boot
device. Nothing I have tried has worked.

I am mystified. I have absolutely no idea what happened
with my system. The system was working fine, I was typing
merrily away and then the keyboard stopped functioning. I
rebooted and that was the last I saw of a working sytem.
This happened on Saturday night. HELP!!!! This is
driving me crazy. Is this the work of a dastardly VIRUS?
Was I infected without knowing it?

Thanks in advance.

You may have a hardware problem. Boot the machine with a
Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com, then try to read your
Win2000 CD from there. If you get the same symptoms then
it's time to take the machine back to your friendly PC dealer.
