Win2k stalls in middle of bootup...

Hi,

I started having trouble with my Win2k P3 computer a few days ago. It turned
out that the power supply was failing and so the display kept giving the "no
input signal" error message. I changed the supply and the machine now starts
the boot cycle however, it hangs halfway through with the progress bar
displayed.

I tried Safe Booting (using F8) but that also hangs at some stage - I think
that the file that it stops at is ".../Mup.???" or ".../Muv.???" - I don't
remember exactly.

I tried using the installation CD to recover the system. When I press "R" to
recover and enter the Administrator password a DOS window comes up but am not
sure what to do next. I don't know what commands I should (or can) execute to
clean up the system. If I restart the system still hangs so it seems that no
automatic repair occurred.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA,
-GB

Is there any other way to correct my problem rather than a complete
reinstall or a recover (which seems to be about the same)?

Also, Is there a way to figure out which file is corrupt from the list
of file displayed when booting stalled?

Maybe; might depend on what file it stalled on

An in place upgrade is the same as a repair installation, it replaces any
win corrupt files / registry entries, It doesnt impact on data or installed
apps, though for data it is allways wise to have backups.
