I have a frustrating Windows Explorer problem. When I
launch, it works fine for a few operations, such as
expanding files or moving things around, then it freezes
or I get "syntax error" messages and have to restart the
program. I have checked for spyware, viruses (with latest
security s/w), full Norton scan, etc. No luck. Should I
reinstall? Can this be done without removing and
reinstalling the entire Windows 2000? Suggestions via
email appreciatated.

Just about anything can be fixed without reinstalling the operating system
:-)

There may be some third-party browser component that is loading up and
causing problems.
To disable these:
- Open Internet Explorer
- Clear the checkbox for "Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) found in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
If this works, then you can proceed to delete the one(s) causing the
problem:
- Run Regedit
- Entries for browser extensions will be found in the below key.
Export and delete the suspect ones.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Extensions
