Win 2000 / Win ME Ping only in one direction

Jochen

Hello,

I am trying to set up a peer to peer network with one Win 2000 Pro and one
Win ME computer. IPX works fine, but I want TCP.

The problem: TCP Games do not work. I tried ping and tracert. The strange
thing is: Both computers can ping themselves, the Win 2000 PC can ping the
me one and gets an answer. But the Win ME cannot ping the 2000 PC. It can
resolve the name, I see the correct IP, but then there is a timeout. Same
with tracert.

I think ping should work in both directions. Browsed the internet, read a
lot about firewalls, but I have no one installed (and never had). And I
think 2000 does not have a build-in.

What can I do? Please help me!

Thanks,

Jochen

Do you have any personal firewalls etc?

What are the IP address and subnet masks of both systems?

Hi,

thanks.

Win ME: 192.168.111.233
Subnet: 255.255.0.0

2000 pro:
192.168.111.221
255.255.0.0

pinging the me pc works,
an tcp test tool works if me is server, 2000 client.

Sorry,

i didnot tell you that there is no firewall, I had never installed one, and
think 2k has no build in.
