Hi,

I have XP Home SP3 and am trying to backup it up from a remote computer in a
workgroup. It does not allow access to several folders and files when I do
so.

I do have a CD of Win 2000 Pro that has never been used. Would it be
advisable to switch to 2000? Would the security be too big an issue? Will
it allow better access?

Thanks, Fred

Switching to Win2000 because of an access issue would be equivalent to
buying a new car when you run out of petrol. It is fairly trivial to resolve
the security issue. I suggest you repost in WindowsXP.general and supply
full details about what you're trying to do and what exactly your problems
are.

Hello Frederick,

How did you configure the XP machines, all having the same user account/password
in the same workgroup name? Is any firewall running and blocking access?
What error message do you get when trying to open a share on a remote machine?
How are you connecting between the machines?

Best regards

I did make a post in XP General, but I cannot find it. Maybe it was deleted
because I posted a similar one a while back. What is best for me to do,
please, Pegasus?

Thanks, Fred

The newsgroup WindowsXP.general is unmoderated. Posts do not get deleted
unless they are of an offensive nature. Since your current issue relates
very much to the way Windows XP Home handles file sharing and access
permissions, your best bet is to repost there. Windows 2000 is quite
different in this regard.
