will windows xp home delete save files when installed?

I would like to know if installing windows xp upgrade will
delete my saved files. And if so, how can I backup my
saved files to a cd?

Depends on how you install Windows XP. Clean or Upgrade.
Upgrade *should not* delete any of your files, but you should always back up
your files.

If you have burned CDs before, the method is the same to burn these files.
If you have not, you need to use a third party application (since I assume
you don't have Windows XP) to select and burn the files to CD.
