Will vista express upgrades ever arrive?

I'm in the UK. Purchased a new laptop January 8 applied for the upgrade the
same day. I've telephoned modus link several times, each time I receive a
different and later estimate delivery date every time.

It was a Toshiba laptop.

It's awkward phoning, as I'm physically disabled with slight speech
difficulties.

I even telephoned Microsoft UK once, but they insisted I contact moduslink,
even though I explained that they were the problem!

Anyone know what's happening? Or is this offer just a big con?

I'm in the same boat and it is frustrating.

My understanding is that the upgrades will ship 6-8 weeks from the VISTA
release date which I believe to be the end of January. So I think we can
expect them anytime from Mid March.

I'm getting the same run around. I called Moduslink about three weeks ago
they told me that I'd get my copy by the end of last week, it never came. I
called today and was told by Moduslink that they've filled the Order for
Gateway but they believed the disk would be shipped March 28th. I wanted
solid info so i called Gateway they tell me it won't ship till MAY! This is
unacceptable, the terms and conditions listed on my recipet say to expect
the software by April, hence a breach of the terms on Gateway's part. I'm
thinking about returning the computer to Gateway reorder the same system with
Vista pre-installed. To say this whole mess has been mishandled right from
the start is a massive understatement.

Yeah, but that's Gateway's issue, not MS's... so, yes, you're right...
return the system and get Vista pre-installed.

I received an email from ModusLink saying the upgrade will be
shipped in early March, so I'll probable see it mid March.
I understand the delay is due to the fact that a Vista drivers
disk (customized for your PC) needs to be included with
the OS DVD, and the driver developers are way behind.

That would make sense if every new machine sold with Vista pre-installed
since January 30 was a brand-new design. But some models are *exactly the
same* hardware-wise, with the only difference being the OS.

I will never buy a PC under this scenario ever again; and I've bought
several over the last few months. It's reasonable to expect that an Express
Upgrade is just that, and not the exact opposite. Next time, should there be
a next time, I won't forget how wonderfully I was treated by the "Express"
Upgrade program. Fool me once...

I'm also ticked, as I applied for my Gateway Express Vista Upgrade in Dec.,
right after they put the web site up. I still haven't received the express
upgrade, nor has it been mailed. Gateway keeps giving me the run-around
saying that Moduslink is handling everything, and Moduslink in their FYI says
that the Computer manufacturer has to first supply them with the upgrades. I
don't know who is messing up, but I've had my computer too long to return it.
I can't reach Moduslink by phone (except for automated info). How did anyone
get to a live person? I keep getting the canned email reply that the order
should arrive in 4-6 weeks. It's been 6 weeks now and no sign of the
upgrade. I'm wondering if the whole thing was a scam to get people to order
a new computer; if it doesn't arrive soon, I think a lawsuit is in order:
breach of promise.

Nothing is ever owned too long to return. Take it to Gateway and raise Hell.
They'll make you happy.
