Compaq NC3120 Fast ETHERNET NIC pci card.

Don't know if it 10/100

I do have an USB2 slot. (The cable modem may require a network
card).

If the network card is not defective, has the proper drivers for your OS
installed and is enabled with nothing corrupted - it will work fine.

Yes. The brand and model don't matter. You can connect your DSL or
cable modem to a CAT5 socket on any working network card.
