Cable modem -- does it make modem card unnecessary.

I have a Comcast account and a cable modem. I am building a new
computer.
If I connect to the cable modem with Ethernet or wireless router, does
that make an internal modem card unnecessary?

By "internal modem card", do you mean a dial-up modem that connects to
the Internet over a phone line? If so, it's unnecessary.

It isn't unnecessary if you ever expect to make a dialup connection, but
that would very very seldom be needed.
It isn't unnecessary if you ever expect to send or receive faxes over the
dialup line.
I don't ever expect to do those two things, hence I removed the modem card
from my desktop.
I am not real eager to work on the inside of the laptop hence it is still
present.
