WILL NOT SHUT DOWN!!

Since i installed service pack 1a.i am having an
intermittent problem shuting down.if i click on turn off
computer the flopy bots like normal and then my Norton
icon on my taskbar by my clock leaves but i am still
functional on the desktop.this hapens about 3or 4 times a
week.only since sp1a.event viewer shows listed under
system aWarning"user32"attempt to power off failed"
any answers on this would be greatly apreciated.thanks
