Good morning;

I have recently encountered a problem with my Compaq
Laptop running Windows XP Pro. It seems that when I shut-
down and click "turn-off", Windows gets as far as the
splash screen where it says windows is shutting down and
hangs. I then have to manually press the power off on my
laptop to shut down completely. Is there any security
patches or updates that I have let Microsoft
automatically install causing this or is there a conflict
within my system files?
Any answers are deeply appreciated
Thanks

Here's a link to an excellent shutdown troubleshooter:

Thanks Malke
I took a quick look. Good site. Since my problems started
after Upgrading to Roxio DVD/CD creator 6 basic from CD 5
platinum and installing a PS2 wireless mouse, running
through a PS2 to USB connect, one of these may very well
be the culprit.
I have already had XP SP1 installed, so this should cover
the patch from Microsoft on the shut down and re-start.
Thanks
Phil
