Computer Reboots Will not shut down

Hi,

I wonder if you could help and advise me. After installing SP2 upgrade on my
Windows XP Home Edition Computer. After a time it began rebooting when you
go to turn it off in the normal fashion. It will not shut down.

The SP2 was supplied on CD ROM disk from Microsoft and installed quite
easily and appeared to be quite compatible to the Bios and Power on and off
of this computer and all other related matters in this field. Their was no
conflicts in the pre boot installation as the system was vetted prior to
installation or during the installation of the software itself and worked
satisfactorily for a time. I have tried to recover any lost files on my
system with the following :

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type:
SFC /SCANNOW

The Problem still exists and will not go away.
The computer hardware and software appears to perform normally in all other
actions that is requested .

Can any person help and advise me please.
Thanking you all,
Jarlath Jordan
