I'm trying to reinstall XP.
I think I made the mistake by selecting the install icon
when I loaded the
windows cd in the computer when I was in windows instead
of closing down
and restarting with the windows cd in it.

I'm trying to delete the partition and then create a new
one install XP
again.
For some reason it will not let me delete the partition
and it comes up with
this message-

SETUP IS UNABLE TO PERFORM THE REQUESTED OPERATION ON THE
SELECTED
PARTITION. THIS PARTITION CONTAINS TEMPORARY SETUP FILES
THAT ARE REQUIRED
TO COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION.

Is there anyway of getting around it - I've tried
everything.
On Win 98 the start-up floppy used to let you format and
delete partitions.
I also cannot get back into XP at the moment.

Any help would be very grateful

*Warning - you will lose all data*

Boot to the xp cd and follow the on-screen instructions. The cd is bootable
and has all the tools to format and install.

Or,

Boot to a win9x floppy boot disk, run Fdisk, delete partitions, create new
partitions, reboot to boot disk again, run format(or reboot to xp cd and
format), boot to xp cd, install xp. Get boot disk here: www.bootdisk.com

I think I have seen you post this before - go back and look for replies,
and do not expect them necessarily to appear for a day or two. But to
do a clean install:

Boot the XP CD direct. Enter Setup, and after the license agreement
take New Install. When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select
and delete the current partition and make a new RAW one to be formatted
at the next stage

The important point is the delete. Without that it will just go ahead
and make a new install over the top of the old one
