Will not connect - part 2

My desktop suddenly stopped connecting to the net via a
wired ethernet/router connection, my laptop did not,
using the same cable when i move it.
I've noticed that in the problem desktop Network
Connections, LAN or High Speed Interenet , that there are
2 high speed listings. One is a new eternet card, the
other an onboard built in Lan connection. Both
show "Network Cable unplugged." When I plug the ethernet
cable in to either connection it does not "Enable." This
is the same cable that I move from desktop to laptop. At
the laptop the connection is immediately "Enabled," but
not in the desktop. This appears to be the reason why I
cannot connect to the router. I've checked the bios
settings and they are on "auto" and the latest drivers
are loaded. How do I fix this ?

Have you tried "enabling" the connection
if you have the icon in the tray simply right click on it and choose enable. takes about 5 seconds to complete
also you may want to check in the network connections in the control panel , select the NIC you use and go to the properties/ advanced tab. uncheck the box "enable windows to turn off device for power saving

Thanks Joadster. The problem is still there. The NIC's
won't 'enable" from the system tray. I unchecked power
management days ago. Yet, when I switch the ethernet
cable to my laptop, it enables the connection and works
fine. Something is preventing my desktop from enabling
all three high speed connections, two built into the
motherboard and one a new ehternet card. I'm at a
complete loss on this one.
