shared internet connection to desktop pc via wireless laptop

I have a laptop that is connected wirelessly to the internet through a router
using a shared 64-bit WEP key. I would like to connect my desktop PC to the
internet as well but it does not have a wireless adapter and is not located
close enough to the router for wired connection. Can I connect my laptop to
my desktop PC using an ethernet cable to share the internet connection?

You can, possibly do this, using Internet Connection Sharing on the laptop, and
running the desktop computer as an ICS client.

ICS is not the best choice, and there is one issue which may make this setup not
to work. Check the LAN on the router. If the router is using 192.168.0/24 (ie,
router LAN of 192.168.0.n, subnet mask 255.255.255.0), you will have to change
that, as ICS will use that subnet.

Yes, you will need a crossover cable for this.

You don't need ICS. Uninstall it or the ics dhcp server will conflict
with the dhcp server of the router.

Instead, create a network bridge between the wired and wireless
interfaces on the laptop. This will allow the wired desktop to connect
to the router as if it was wireless itself.
