Will Norton Ghost 2003 allow restore on Windows XP since some files are missing?

I may upgrade to Windows XP. Have 2000 and Ghost 2003.

I noticed that Ghost does not backup pagefile.sys and I also did not
find ntdetect and ntldr in the .gho image.

Have not restored in 2000 in a long long time and forget if it worked
when I did a restore with Ghost.

I do know if you have ntldr or pagefile.sys missing then Win 2k will
not boot and if Pagefile.sys is missing I do not think it creates one.

I tested this as I just added a new hard drive and had some issues
with pagefile.sys (have Fat 32 on 2000) and had to boot with Win98,
change attributes to -h -s and then copy pagefile.sys to that drive.

Therefore I ask 2 questions:
1. Will Ghost allow a restore to XP that will run without any other
user intervention? And will XP boot and perhaps create the
pagefile.sys under XP?

2. Since Ghost does not seem to copy some files, can these files be
backed up manually somehow? I know Pagefile.sys cannot be copied while
in service (under Explorer) and since it is NTFS, I could not even
copy it after Booting with Barts PE (undre 2000 still said in
service).

Thanks
Patty

Ghost will restore an EXACT image. The hard disk does not even need to be formatted. So if
you have a GHO and subsequent GHS files and restore it to a bare hard disk the PC will boot
as it did when the platform was imaged. that is assuming it is the same platform or same
model platform.

I don't understand what your problem is. In respect to Ghost (any version) it will work the
same with WinXP as Win2K.

As for pagefile.sys, that's a virtual memory swap file and is replaced upon a new boot.

Thanks David,
Had problem when I installed another drive temporarily. I got it all fixed up now.

Appreciate it.
